Commercial Fitout: Choosing an Ideal Office Partition Material

Posted on

If you are moving into a new office building, it is crucial to engage an expert for a fitout for the commercial space. Basically, this process will make the interior room suitable for occupation and carrying out the normal business operations. There are numerous elements that you must consider before this type of project commences. One of these important elements is the partitioning material for the work space. The choice will determine the visual appeal and even management efficiency of the office. Here are the primary materials that you should consider selecting for your new office partitions.

Glass Partitions

As implied, these types of partitions are fabricated using only clear glass material. The panels are usually held in place using head and floor supports, and the joints between the glass elements are filled with strong silicon mastic. You can choose framed or frameless glass partitioning systems for your office, depending on the desired visual impact. Glass partitions are ideal because they create an open floor appearance while maintaining organisation. It is a perfect choice for an airy, contemporary office. If you will require privacy in some spaces, you can incorporate blinds into the portioning system. You should also consider adding decorative elements on the glass. For example, a film with the company logo can be applied to create visual interest.

Aluminium Partitions

Aluminium is a lightweight material, and it is economical for commercial applications. This type of partitioning system is an appropriate alternative to glass if you do not like the open office space design. Basically, this type of partition is manufactured using solid plaster wallboard as the core. Aluminium panels are attached to the internal material to create a strong and stable wall. In some cases, mineral fibre cores are used to improve the thermal and acoustic performance of the partition. Aluminium partitions are favourable because they are fire-rated, and their appearance can be improved by colour or powder coating.

Plasterboard Partition

A plasterboard partition is constructed using a solid panel of gypsum. Typically, the layer is covered using outer covers of lining paper to stabilise the internal structure. Plasterboard partitions are not intended for load-bearing applications, but they will perform exceptionally in efficient space division installation. The material is strong and provides good sound insulation, so it will act as a reliable stationary wall. In addition, plasterboard is rated well for thermal insulation and fire resistance. Unfortunately, plasterboard is susceptible to moisture damage. Therefore, avoid installing this partition in buildings or operations that will experience constant humidity.
